BCR Open
The BCR Open Romania is an ATP tennis tournament held every September at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest.
Since the "Big Time" era of the Romanian tennis in the 70's, lead by the world class players Ilie Nastase and Ion Tiriac, the tennis tradition in Romania continues. The "pearl" of the international tennis events in Bucharest is the BCR Romania Open tournament.
The tournament began in 1993, with Croatian Goran Ivanisevic winning the singles title. Romanians Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu took home the doubles title in 1998 and in 2005 two local players reached the semi-finals. Romania has yet to celebrate a home grown singles victory.
